KATHMANDU, Jan 27: The Nepal National and International Players’ Association (NNIPA) is set to organize the 14th NNIPA Sports Award on February 18.
In a press conference organized in Kathmandu on Sunday, NNIPA President Deepak Shrestha informed that the award ceremony will be held at the Basantapur Dabali.
A total of 28 athletes including men and women athletes of 28 different sports will be awarded during the ceremony.
The athletes from football, swimming, volleyball, table tennis, shooting, boxing, weightlifting, paragliding, kurans, kabaddi, fencing, roller sports, squash, sepak takrow, wrestling, sports climbing, basketball, lawn tennis, badminton, triathlon, pencek silat, karate, judo, taekwondo, wushu, archery, athletics and golf were selected based on their performance at the 18th Asian Games held in Indonesia.
Former athlete Rokaya to be felicitated
The winner of the awards will get a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each and they will be selected on the proposal of the concerned sports associations.
It has been announced that the NNIPA and the associations will contribute Rs 5,000 each.
Among the 28 sports disciplines, a men and a women player will be selected as the best male and best female athlete and will be given Rs 100,000 each.
For that, the association has already signed a five-year contract with the Global IME Bank last year.
Likewise, the Gajraj Joshi Aadarsh Sports Foundation will give an award to one player.
The winner will bag a cash prize of Rs 35,000 from the foundation, which was named after the first international runner Gajraj Joshi.
Also, one sports journalist will be awarded with the NNIPA Sports Journalism Award and will get a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
The organizers have also confirmed that a new category will be opened from this year as the NNIPA will provide an award to a para athlete for the best performing para athlete of the year.
