Nov 30 fixed for all by-polls

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: A day after holding discussion with major political parties, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday fixed November 30 for holding by-elections to fill the vacant positions of local, provincial and federal governments.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: A day after holding discussion with major political parties, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday fixed November 30 for holding by-elections to fill the vacant positions of local, provincial and federal governments.

According to EC spokesman Shankar Prasad Kharel the elections will be conducted in 37 districts to fill 50 vacant positions of local, provincial and federal level governments. 


EC said one seat in the parliament and three in the provincial assemblies are currently vacant. A parliamentary seat fell vacant after then tourism minister Rabindra Adhikari was killed in a helicopter accident in Taplejung in February. Adhikari was a member of parliament from Kaski-2. Provincial assembly seats have been lying vacant in Dang, Bhaktapur and Baglung following the deaths of lawmakers Uttar Kumar Oli, Harisaran Lamichhane and Tek Bahadur Gharti. Likewise, several positions of local bodies are vacant.
