KATHMANDU, June 4: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started necessary preparations to shorten the process for the distribution of housing grant to the victims whose houses were damaged by the 2015 earthquakes.
Newly-appointed NRA Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Dabadi said that the NRA is amending the Private Housing Reconstruction Grant Distribution Directive-2073 to cut bureaucratic red tape and quicken the process of grant distribution to the quake victims.

“We are working to shorten the grant receiving process for the victims in line with the government’s recent announcement in the budget to quicken post-quake reconstruction by cutting red tape,” he said.
The NRA plans to complete the task of grant distribution to the earthquake victims by the end of the next fiscal year.
According to him, the NRA is making preparations to mobilize the local units to monitor the reconstruction of houses to ensure that the houses are built in line with NRA’s guidelines and submit names of the house owners’ eligible for the housing grant installments to the district administration office for disbursement.
“Currently, quake victims themselves need to take their documents to the district body to seek the grant installments. Plus, there were several layers of monitoring before the approval of the housing grant, which delayed the grant distribution process and gave lots of hassles to the victims. So, we are making changes so that the local bodies will themselves take the files to the district body on behalf of the victims,” Dabadi said.
He said victims can visit the district headquarters only to collect the grant from their bank accounts once the amendment to the directive being drafted by the NRA is endorsed by the cabinet.
