NRA hands over reconstruction work to authorities concerned

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started handing over the remaining reconstruction work of private houses and other structures damaged by the 2015 earthquake to the authorities concerned. The reconstruction works of private housing, settlement development, government and public buildings, health and educational institutions, monasteries, roads and bridges were handed over to different authorities at a program organized by NRA.

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started handing over the remaining reconstruction work of private houses and other structures damaged by the 2015 earthquake to the authorities concerned. The reconstruction works of private housing, settlement development, government and public buildings, health and educational institutions, monasteries, roads and bridges were handed over to different authorities at a program organized by NRA.


The work of private housing and settlement development has been handed over to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Ministry of Urban Development. Similarly, the reconstruction work of government and public buildings and health institutions and the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (building) was also handed over to the same department.


The rest of the reconstruction work including financial and technical management of private housing and settlement development being carried out by the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Grant Management and Local Infrastructure) has also been handed over to the department.

Likewise, the work related to the reconstruction of the remaining educational institutions has been handed over to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the designated district offices under it.


Similarly, roads and bridges’ work has been handed over to the Department of Local Infrastructure under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration. This department will also work on the reconstruction of monasteries that are less than 100 years old in coordination with the Monastery Development Committee. 


The work related to the assets, liabilities, documents, unclaimed details and offices under the concerned central and district project implementation units have also been handed over to the authorities concerned. The responsible body is set to carry out the reconstruction work immediately after the handover. According to Chief Executive Officer of the NRA, Sushil Geywali, almost all of the total structures to be reconstructed within five years, eight months and 20 days have been completed or are in the process of completion.
