KATHMANDU, Aug 23: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started preparatory work to set up five integrated settlements for the earthquake victims of marginalized communities in the three most-affected earthquake-hit districts.

The first executive committee meeting of the NRA held after the appointment of the new chief executive officer Sushil Gyewali endorsed a preliminary plan prepared by the authority to develop five integrated settlements in Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap and Kavrepalanchowk districts. Due to the delay on the part of the government to appoint a new CEO following the removal of former CEO Yubaraj Bhusal, the NRA had not been able to hold its executive committee meeting since the first week of July.

A statement issued by the NRA stated that each of the integrated settlements will include up to 70 households. The NRA aims to set up integrated settlements in three places of Sindhupalchowk district while one integrated settlement each will be set up in Ramechhpap and Kavrepalanchowk.

The NRA has planned to set up integrated settlements for marginalized communities in the districts, according to NRA. In Ramechhap, the NRA aims to develop integrated settlement for individuals of the Maghi community whose houses were severely damaged by the 2015 earthquakes. In other two districts, victims of Tamang communities will be accommodated in the integrated settlements.

Similarly, the NRA executive committee meeting also endorsed vacancies for the effective operation of its implementation bodies. To oversee reconstruction in the education sector, as many as 463 vacancies have been endorsed. A total of 3,250 vacancies for housing reconstruction and 704 vacancies have been endorsed for the task of overseeing reconstruction of local infrastructures.
