NRNA controversy in Parliament,  lawmakers demand information on talks with the UK

KATHMANDU, June 11: Lawmakers in the parliament session on Friday demanded information on the upcoming talks with the British government regarding the demands of ex-Gorkhas.


Taking part in the discussion of the ministries under the Appropriation Bill on Friday, the CPN-UML lawmaker Dr Surya Prasad Pathak said that parliament should be informed about the upcoming talks with the British government regarding the demands of the agitating ex-Gorkha servicemen.

Dr Pathak pointed out that the information about the government initiating talks with the UK on the demands of the Gurkha ex-servicemen, who are fighting for equal pensions and rights came out in the media, but the government has not provided any official information yet.


Similarly, Pathak accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of political interference in social organizations such as the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to divide the Nepali people living abroad. He expressed his sorrow over the direct impact on  investment and other issues due to the division of Nepali people living abroad.


Likewise, he said that non-resident Nepalis have played an important role in imparting skills and knowledge on natural disasters, COVID-19 pandemic etc. in Nepal. Pathak demanded that the bill on non-resident Nepali citizenship be brought to parliament immediately, arguing that the bill would ensure the economic, social and cultural rights of non-resident Nepali citizens. He said that it was necessary to make appropriate amendments to the bill related to non-resident Nepali people.
