NSP splits less than two years after formation under Baburam Bhattarai's leadership

KATHMANDU, March 16: Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP) formed by Doctor Baburam Bhattarai has split.


Party chairman Mahindra Rai Yadav's group has agreed to split the party and unite with the CPN (Maoist Center).

Mahindra Rai agreed to unite with the Maoists after breaking up the NSP after the attempt to get Baburam Bhattarai to participate failed.


The meeting of the Unity Coordination Committee held today under the chairmanship of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has agreed to unite the party.


The meeting has decided to decide the name of the unified party from the upcoming convention.


In addition, a working group has also been formed for ideological uniformity and organizational preparation for party unity.


General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung and Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma from the Maoist side and Co-Chairman Ganga Narayan Shrestha and General Secretary Ramesh Prasad Yadav from NSP are in the working group.
