KATHMANDU, June 16: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP), has started providing 15-day river guide training to women in Balefi of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality from June 15.
The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) in partnership with the STLRP is providing free training to 53 women from different districts.

Inaugurating the training on Wednesday, NTB CEO Dhananjay Regmi said that this training is expected to be a cornerstone in the development of manpower in nautical tourism. CEO Regmi urged the people not only to take this training as training but also to work for making a career in this field. The NTB expressed its commitment to providing additional training in collaboration with NARA.
NARA President Shiva Adhikari said that for the first time in the history of Nepal, NARA has launched free training for women river guides in collaboration with NTB and STLRP.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayan Shrestha, General Secretary of NARA, said that the training is being organized with the objective of increasing the attraction of youth and making women self-reliant as the participation of women in water tourism is comparatively very low.
