KATHMANDU, July 13: A data has shown that number of cancer patients is increasing in Nepal of late.
According to the data of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Bharatpur, Chitwan, currently there are more than 50,000 cancer patients in the country.
Although the country has no accurate and disaggregated data of cancer patients including annual incidents of cancer-caused deaths, roughly 30,000-35,000 new cancer patients are being afflicted from the disease every year in Nepal, states the statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Hospital Chairman Dr Prakash Raj Neupane said that the number of cancer patients may go up in days ahead if the current situation persists.
Most of the patients visiting the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital are found suffering from lung, breast, blood, throat and skin cancers.
Annually 12 million new cancer patients are detected across the world while seven million of them are losing their lives.
