Obstruction to Hewa hydropower project works

PANCHTHAR, Nov 25: Locals have put on hold the construction works of Hewa Rivulet Hydropower Project 'A' citing non-implementation of agreement between locals and Panchthar Power Company.

PANCHTHAR, Nov 25: Locals have put on hold the construction works of Hewa Rivulet Hydropower Project 'A' citing non-implementation of agreement between locals and Panchthar Power Company. 


Irate locals had resorted to padlock the main door of the hydropower project office some days ago. A black flag has also been put up at the work station of the project. The Company sources said that the locals have remained reluctant to come to negotiation table despite call for dialogue from the police administration.

Only some of the written and oral commitments made during the project operation have been partially implemented and there are many things to do from project side as per the agreement, locals said. 


"The statute and act of the company established to operate hydropower project at local level should be made public; there should be issuance of share to the public without any delay and arrangement of drinking water and irrigation canal", said Binaya Ramtle, a local. 


The locals have launched protest putting forth 15-point demand. He said they would not let up their agitation till their demands are addressed. RSS
