KATHMANDU, Dec 29: Amid  friction among  party leaders, a joint-political report presented by the ruling Nepal Communist Party chairmen duo—KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal—was endorsed on Friday.

Disgruntled party leaders gave their thumbs up to the report after the party leadership vowed to incorporate the suggestions and criticisms they raised during the nearly two-week long Standing Committee meeting.

Party’s Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha said the report was approved after the chairmen duo agreed to incorporate the views raised by disgruntled leaders. A task force has been formed to incorporate in a scientific manner all the issues raised by party leaders, he said.

The task force led by party General Secretary Bishnu Poudel includes Ram Bahadur Thapa, Shankar Pokharel, Barshaman Pun, Yogesh Bhattarai, Surendra Pandey, Beduram Bhusal and Lekhraj Bhatta. The next round of the Standing Committee meeting will take place within three weeks, on the basis of the report submitted by the task force.

At the meeting,  Chairman KP Sharma Oli, who also heads the government, was widely criticized for sidelining leaders critical of his stances, failing to deliver as per the people’s expectations, and delaying the party’s unification process. Oli, however, defended himself, saying  his government had not deviated from election commitments. But he admitted that the party’s unification was not up to the expectations of party cadres.

Presenting the political report on behalf of both the party chairmen, Oli claimed that the government had performed to the best of its  capacity. But dissatisfied party leaders came down heavily on him, accusing him of promoting corruption and failing to deliver as per  people’s expectations.

Senior NCP leader Bam Dev Gautam, however, presented a supplementary report asking Oli to choose the post of either  party chief or government head. Many leaders including Dahal, the other party chairman, disavowed Gautam’s proposal.

Supporters of Gautam, however, say his One Leader One Post proposal is still under discussion among party rank and file.

Oli has promised to  begin a nationwide party building campaign after mid-April to give out a positive message to the cadres.
