One buried to death in landslide

SURKHET, Oct 19: A person has died in a landslide triggered by continuous rains in Kalikot. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhav Shrestha, spokesperson for the Provincial Police Office, Surkhet, the deceased has been identified as Smriti Adhikari, 18, of Mahawai Rural Municipality-7, Ramri.

SURKHET, Oct 19: A person has died in a landslide triggered by continuous rains in Kalikot. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhav Shrestha, spokesperson for the Provincial Police Office, Surkhet, the deceased has been identified as Smriti Adhikari, 18, of Mahawai Rural Municipality-7, Ramri.


Shrestha said that Adhikari died in the landslide that hit her house on Tuesday morning. Her sister, who was buried in the landslide, was rescued by locals and police. Similarly, the Karnali Highway has been blocked as the ferry used to connect the Karnali Corridor was damaged.

According to the Provincial Police Office, Jitegada in Khadachakra Municipality-2 was flooded again on Tuesday morning. "Due to the continuous rains, the flow of water has increased and the ferry that had been tied up was washed away," he said.


SP Shrestha also said that the traffic was disrupted due to landslides in places on both the highways.
