KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Only four women are contesting in province 7 for the second phase of the election to the House of Representatives under the first-past-the-post (FPTP ) electrol system.

Two women from Nepali Congress (NC) and one each from CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre are vying for House of Representatives among 16 constituencies of the province 7.

Dr. Arzu Rana, wife of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, in Kailali-5 and Ishwori Neupane from Kailali-1 are contesting the election representing NC.

Likewise, Bina Magar, the daughter-in-law of the CPN-Maoist Center chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, is contesting the poll from Kanchanpur-1. The UML candidate Madan Kumari Shah 'Garima' from Kailali-1 is contesting.

Both Rana and Shah were in the erstwhile parliament while Magar had lost the 2013 CA election from the same constituency of Kanchanpur.

However, all the four women candidates have been criticised for getting the tickets due to their access to the party leadership.  Shah is a central committee member of the UML.

Maryada Bista of UML is contesting from Kanchanpur 1 (a) and Devaki Malla of the CPN-Maoist Center from Bajhang-1 (b) while Chandra Devi Joshi of NC is vying for the state assembly seat from Bajhang-1 (a).

The nomination filing date for the second phase polls for December 7 is scheduled for today.
