KATHMANDU, July 7: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has shown high political culture by resigning after questions were raised against him.
Replying to a query raised by the members at a meeting of the Central Committee held in the capital, he said that only the Maoists had communicated the issue of morality and sacrifice in Nepali politics. Explaining that Sharma had not done anything wrong as the finance minister, Dahal said that some people did not like some of the progressive issues included in the budget.
He said that since the formation of the current government and the coalition, many attempts have been made to break it, adding that the humiliation of the finance minister was a continuation of that. "The finance minister has repeatedly stated that he has done nothing wrong and resigned with a clear message in parliament on Wednesday. This has sent a message of sacrifice and morality," Dahal said.
Identity strengthens nationalism: Chairman Dahal
Finance Minister Sharma resigned yesterday after questions were raised accusing him of involving unauthorized people in budget formulation.
The House of Representatives has formed an 11-member committee to investigate the matter.
He said that some people tried to practice wrong politics with the intention of humiliating the Maoist leadership by raising unnecessary issues and trapping the alliance, but they were defeated. In the meeting of the Central Committee that started on Sunday, July 3, the central members had put forward their views on the same day and also on Monday. During the meeting, Chairman Dahal presented a 10-page political report.
