KATHMANDU, June 17: The opposition alliance has demanded the government make relief and rescue efforts effective to help those affected by floods, landslides and inundation. The alliance has also appealed to all party cadres and organizations to actively get involved in relief and rescue efforts.

Issuing a joint press statement, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav and Durga Paudel of Rastriya Janamorcha have alleged that the government failed to make necessary preparedness to tackle the effects of natural disasters such as flood, landslide and inundation.
While urging the government to make relief and rescue efforts effective, the leaders have also asked the government to provide food, shelter and other relief materials to those affected by floods and landslides. “We urge the government to expedite disaster management works, ensuring honesty, transparency and proactive initiatives and mobilizing all government agencies and resources at its disposal,” reads the joint press statement.
