The data collection is being carried out to identify people living with disabilities in the district and conduct a real census of the disabled population. The National Disabled Federation is also collaborating in the district-wide initiative.

So far, 300 PWDs were identified in Uttargaya Rural Municipality and 139 in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, said programme officer Tshering Lama.

Separately, health, education, social security and livelihood programmes are being carried out in the Gosaikunda region for the PWDs in collaboration with Handicap International. While a disaster mitigation and preparedness programme has already been implemented, training on search and rescue is als being provided to the PWDs in the district.
