Over 9,000 candidates of local-level poll in Karnali province yet to submit expenditure details

KARNALI, August 26: More than 9,000 candidates who participated in the local level polls held on May 13 in Karnali Province have not submitted their election expenditure details even three months after the polls.

KARNALI, August 26: More than 9,000 candidates who participated in the local level polls held on May 13 in Karnali Province have not submitted their election expenditure details even three months after the polls.


Out of 12,847 candidates, who filed their candidacies in the local-level election, 9,406 candidates have yet to submit their election expenditure details, according to the Provincial Election Office, Surkhet.

The Local-level Election Act, 2073 BS states that political parties and all candidates have to submit their election expenditure details to the respective district election offices within 30 days after the announcement of the result. But most of the candidates of 79 local levels of 10 districts in Karnali Province have not yet submitted the expenditure details. 


Only 3,441 candidates have submitted their election expenditure details in the Province so far. 


According to Provincial Election Officer Durga Prasad Chalise, the Election Commission issuing a seven-day notice on July 15 had sought clarification with the reasons for not submitting the election expenditure details.
