Over a dozen school teachers resign to contest local polls

KHOTANG, June 7: Over a dozen school teachers have quit their profession in Khotang to contest the upcoming local polls slated for June 28.

KHOTANG, June 7: Over a dozen school teachers have quit their profession in Khotang to contest the upcoming local polls slated for June 28.



The District Education Office (DEO) so far has accepted the resignation of 21 teachers - 14 primary teachers, five secondary teachers and two elementary teachers.



DEO officials said that the teachers have resigned from their posts and are aspirants of chairperson of rural municipalities, ward chairman and ward member of different local units.



According to DEO, several teachers including Rajan Prasad Dhakal of Simpani Secondary School, Bishwonath Niraula of Makpa Secondary School, Keshawraj Karki of Saraswati Secondary School (Dandakhark), Govinda Prasad Acharya of Saraswati Secondary School (Diktel), Himal Giri of Sarada Secondary School, Harinarayan Yadav of Chyasmitar Secondary School and among others have submitted their resignations.



Dhakal secured his candidacy as chairman of Khotehang Rural Municipality from the CPN (Maoist Center) and Niraula is a candidate for the post of chairman of Aiselukharka Rural Municipality from Nepali Congress. Pushpakala Bhujel has also secured her candidacy as vice chairperson of Aiselukharka Rural Municipality. Likewise, other former teachers have won candidacies for ward chairperson and ward members in different local units.



However, Karki and former teacher of Janata Secondary School Basanta Rai are the aspirants for the post of chairman of Diprung Rural Municipality from the Nepali Congress.
