Paddy plantation done on 98 pc of rice fields, Nepal hopes to produce 6 million tons of paddy this year

KATHMANDU, August 15: Paddy plantation is completed on 97.89 percent of the paddy acreage of 1.37 million hectares this rainy season, which is close to the last year’s plantation area.  


The records with the Department of Agriculture (DoA) show that Nepali farmers planted paddy on 1.342 million hectares of land as of Thursday. Last year, paddy plantation was done on 1.346 million hectares of land by the end of the season.

According to a department official, the country hopes to produce six million tons of paddy this year, which is more than the last year’s yield of 5.62 million tons. The rise in production has been attributed to the timely and adequate rainfall and the supply of chemical fertilizers.


Regarding the province wise report, paddy has been planted on 267,149 hectares (96.86 percent) out of 275,901 hectares of paddy acreage in Province 1. The plantation in Province 2 is recorded at 96.8 percent out of 365,615 hectares of land while Bagmati Province witnessed 98.08 percent out of 115,295 hectares of rice field and Gandaki Province witnessed 98.64 percent out of 182,078 hectares of paddy producing land.


Similarly, the plantation has been done on 98.95 percent of 335,093 hectares in Lumbini Province and it is 99.06 percent of 164,170 hectares in Sudurpaschim Province. The paddy plantation is completed on the entire rice field of 383,085 hectares in Karnali Province.
