KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Pakistan has defeated Nepal 2-1 in the SAFF Championship 2018 Sujuki Cup held in Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka on Tuesday.
Hasan Nabid Bashir scored a goal against Nepal in the 34th minute in the first half capitalizing on the penalty given to Nepal.
Nepal drew with Pakistan after Bimal scored a goal in the 82nd minute but Mohammed Ali Dabous doubled the socre in the injury time, ensuring win for Pakistan.
Nepal in Group 'A' in SAFF Championship
Nepal was seen aggressive at the initial phase of the match. However, it could not score any goals until the first half. It could not utilize the pass given by Bimal Gharti Magar in the 24th minute. Nepal was awarded penalty for the foul Nepal’s captain Biraj Maharjan committed in the D-box area. Pakistan took lead 1-0 against Nepal after it scored a goal through penalty.
Smilarly, Maharjan had struck a goal toward the post in the 25th minute but Pakistani goalkeeper Usaf easily defended it.
Nawayug Shrestha also could not capitalize on a golden opportunity available for him in the 33rd minute. Shrestha struck wide and the ball went few feet above the post.
Nepal, host country Bangladesh and Pakistan are in group ‘A’ while India, Sri Lanka and Maldives are in group ‘B’.
