Pakistan Embassy in Nepal hosts reception to honor first winter K2 Ascent Team

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Pakistan Embassy in Nepal hosted a reception in the honor of the Nepali Winter K2 Ascent Team which successfully scaled Mt K2 in winter, making a history.

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Pakistan Embassy in Nepal hosted a reception in the honor of the Nepali Winter K2 Ascent Team which successfully scaled Mt K2 in winter, making a history.


It is for the first time in history that the “Savage Mountain” has been successfully scaled in winter, setting a new world record.

According to a press statement of the Pakistan Embassy in Nepal, the reception was held at Aloft Hotel at Thamel, Kathmandu which was attended by Ambassador-designate Syed Haider Shah, Dhananjay Regmi, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, notables of Nepal’s tourism industry and senior officials along with the team.


Amid the program, Ambassador-designate Shah presented souvenirs to the team’s leaders Nirmal Purja and Mingma Gyalje Sherpa.


Meanwhile, the ascent team thanked the Embassy of Pakistan for their support, appreciation and recognition of their success. They also recalled the warm and memorable reception from the leadership and people of Pakistan.


A team of 10 Nepali mountaineers scaled Mount K2 on January 16, setting a record as the first team to conquer the second tallest peak in the world in winter.
