KATHMANDU, June 24: Parliamentary State Affairs Committee has decided to hold discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs over the killing of Kumar Paudel, the district in-charge of Sarlahi of the outlawed Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in Sarlahi last week allegedly by police after taking him in captivity.
Although the parliamentary committee has summoned Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa on Monday to discuss about disaster preparedness, members of the State Affairs Committee have decided to hold discussions about the killing of Paudel as well.
Speaking in the parliamentary committee meeting on Sunday, lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Janardan Sharma had protested the killing of Paudel.

Referring to media report, Sharma said that Paudel, a leader of Netra Bikram Chanda-led Maoist party, was allegedly gunned down by police after arresting him.
“We would have had no objection had the police taken appropriate action within the limits of the constitution. Since the information is coming from the public that he was brutally killed, I found this similar to the brutality during the Panchayat era. We want the truth behind the incident. The government has to tell the truth to the people,” he said.
The decision of the parliamentary committee comes in the wake of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) starting investigation into the killing of Paudel.
The national human rights watchdog in a statement on Friday said that the reports of the death of Maoist leader Paudel had drawn its serious attention.
A team from the NHRC headquarters left for the incident site in Sarlahi on Friday morning. The team, which will also comprise some members from its Province 2 office, has been asked to submit a report as soon as possible.
