KATHMANDU, April 9: After the Nepali Congress (NC) did not backtrack on its demand of forming a parliamentary panel to investigate Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has put forward a counter-demand.
The parliamentary party meeting of the RSP held on Tuesday morning demanded the formation of a high-level independent probe committee.
NC approves agreement to form parliamentary probe committee
RSP lawmaker Hari Dhakal said that a high-level probe committee should be formed to investigate individuals who have held high-ranking positions since 2047 BS.
The meeting concluded that the NC's demand for a parliamentary probe committee lacked justification. "Demanding a parliamentary probe committee in this esteemed house based on unsubstantiated rumors undermines the integrity of the parliamentary system itself," stated the meeting's decision.
The RSP said that it is not fair to form a parliamentary panel based on rumors.
As per the decision of the parliamentary party of the RSP, RSP lawmaker Manish Jha was prepared to speak in parliament. However, disruptions caused by the NC prevented him from speaking.
"We urge the opposition party to consider forming a high-level independent probe committee comprising impartial experts. This committee should be open to receiving complaints from the general public and should conduct investigations into all lawmakers," concluded the decision of the RSP parliamentary party meeting.
