Parties agree on TJ Bill , provision of 25 percent punishment to be imposed on perpetrators

KATHMANDU, August 1: The major political parties have reached an agreement on the disputed issues of the transitional justice (TJ) bill. Mahesh Bartaula, the chief whip of the CPN-UML and a member of the Task Force formed to forge an agreement on the TJ bill, said that the peace process of Nepal could be completed within two or three years following the agreement on the disputed issues.

KATHMANDU, August 1: The major political parties have reached an agreement on the disputed issues of the transitional justice (TJ) bill. Mahesh Bartaula, the chief whip of the CPN-UML and a member of the Task Force formed to forge an agreement on the TJ bill, said that the peace process of Nepal could be completed within two or three years following the agreement on the disputed issues.


According to Bartaula, an agreement was reached today on the issues on contentious issues such as the definition of serious human rights violation. The agreement includes a provision allowing for a demand of 25 percent of the penalty to be imposed on the perpetrators.

CPN (Maoist Center) leader Janardan Sharma said that the disputed issues were resolved based on experts’ recommendations. He said that the committee would move forward the bill after submitting the report to the top leaders.


He said that an agreement has been reached regarding relief compensation to security personnel's families, expelled Maoist fighters; as well as serious human rights violations. These issues, which had been unresolved for a long time due to the victims' demands, have now been concluded.
