Parties agree in principle on TRC bill, to finalize it after stakeholder consultation

KATHMANDU, July 26: A meeting of the transitional justice mechanism concluded today, marking a significant step towards finalizing the TRC Bill. The discussion took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar on Friday morning, focusing on reaching a consensus regarding the bill.

KATHMANDU, July 26: A meeting of the transitional justice mechanism concluded today, marking a significant step towards finalizing the TRC Bill. The discussion took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar on Friday morning, focusing on reaching a consensus regarding the bill.


The meeting was attended by Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak from the Nepali Congress, Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula from the UML, and Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma from the Maoist Center.

"We have agreed in principle on the transitional justice bill. We will consult with stakeholders on Monday, and subsequently, we will convene another meeting of the mechanism to finalize the bill," Minister Lekhak stated.


CPN-UML Chief Whip Bartaula also confirmed that the meeting concluded successfully and emphasized that the bill will be finalized after stakeholder opinions are gathered on Monday. "We are working towards finalizing this matter and will incorporate any additional comments received by then. After this consultation, we will hold a final meeting of the working group and submit the report to top leaders, including the Prime Minister," Bartaula said.


Bartaula highlighted that the consensus on the bill will be based on principles that are victim-friendly, align with Supreme Court judgments, and adhere to international law standards.
