KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Department of Passports (DoP) has halted distribution of passports, citing technical snag in its system.
Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the DoP said that checking of the passport application status and the distribution of passports will be affected for the time being due to technical glitches. The DoP has requested service seekers not to visit the office until further notice.

Spokesperson at the DoP Durpada Sapkota said they are working to resolve the issue. “It will take some time for the system to get functional,” Sapkota said in the statement.
This comes in the wake of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) forming a panel to recommend ways to improve distribution of passports so that the people in general do not have to be in queue for several hours. Also on Monday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal directed secretaries at various government offices to ensure effective service delivery at all government offices.
