Patan High Court orders commercial buildings not to charge parking fee

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: The commercial buildings under the Kathmandu Metropolitan City will no longer be able to collect parking fees from the customers.


On Monday, the Patan High Court issued an interim order asking the commercial buildings  not to levy parking fees. Earlier, such commercial buildings used to charge vehicles a fee in their parking lots.

Earlier, the commercial complexes filed a writ petition in the Patan High Court after the metropolis said that they should provide free parking services. The Complex Developers Association filed a writ petition against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.


While hearing the petition on August 7, a single bench of Judge Rajendra Kharel issued a short-term interim order to stop the collection of parking fees by the commercial complexes. It has also requested a written response from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
