Pathao expands 'bike ride' service to 17 more cities in Nepal, rider registration underway

KATHMANDU, April 3: Pathao, a ride-sharing app, is expanding its 'bike ride' service to 17 more cities across Nepal, with the registration of bike riders already underway.

KATHMANDU, April 3: Pathao, a ride-sharing app, is expanding its 'bike ride' service to 17 more cities across Nepal, with the registration of bike riders already underway.


Asheem Man Singh Basnyat, managing director of Pathao Nepal, said that the service, which is currently limited to Kathmandu Valley and Chitwan in Bagmati Province, will soon be accessible in additional cities nationwide as part of the company’s expansion policy.


According to Basnyat, the service of Pathao, will now be operational in nine cities of Koshi Province including  Biratnagar, Damak, Urlabari, Biratchowk, Itahari, Inaruwa, Dharan, Birtamod, and Bhadrapur. The service will also extend to Birgunj and Janakpur of Madhesh Province.  


Moreover, Pathao’s service is set to reach Hetauda in Bagmati Province, Pokhara in Gandaki, Butwal in Lumbini, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim Province.

“We aim to facilitate inter-city travel allowing individuals to commute conveniently between nearby cities,” Basnyat said.


According to Basnyat, the registration process for bike riders has started in the cities slated for service expansion.


Currently, over 200,000 individuals are engaged in Pathao's various services, including more than 190,000 bike riders, over 10,000 taxi drivers and more than 5,000 individuals registered for food delivery. Along with rides, Pathao offers services such as Pathao Food, and parcel service.


Pathao claimed it provides the highest amount of ride-sharing insurance in Nepal, offering coverage of up to Rs 1 million in case of death or dismemberment due to an accident and up to Rs 100,000 for medical treatment.


The company offers round-the-clock customer care service to address customers’ concerns, feedback and suggestions.


Both Android and iPhone users can access Pathao's services through the Pathao mobile app, which has been downloaded more than 5 million times, according to the company’s data.
