KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to continue the short-term interim order issued earlier not to raise any amount in the name of the World Cup football tournament.
A joint bench of justices Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma heard the writ on Wednesday and cleared the way for the implementation of the decision of 'Media Hub' to charge for the live broadcast of the World Cup.

Media Hub had decided to collect Rs 500 from the viewers for the World Cup broadcast. Advocate Kishore Paudel filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision.
Earlier, a bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut had issued a short-term interim order not to implement the decision to collect Rs 500. In the writ petition, an order was sought to stop the decision taken by Media Hub against the provisions of the National Broadcasting Regulations, which states that the amount cannot be determined except by the government.
In the writ petition, it was stated that a private company cannot take such a decision while there is a provision that one can easily watch the World Cup by paying the service fee to be paid for the cable television.
In Nepal, various channels have been broadcasting the World Cup football tournament live on television for a long time. The World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar from November 20. The schedule of the competition has also been published.
