Per capita power consumption to be increased to 700 units

KATHMANDU, May 9: The government aims to increase electricity consumption per person by about five times from existing 129 units (kWh) in five years.

Unveiling white paper on energy, water resources and irrigation, Minister Pun also announced to increase the energy consumption per person to 1,500 kWh in the next 10 years. Pun also announced that the government will encourage the use of electricity over other sources of energy in households, transport sector and factories.


Minister Pun also announced to generate 3,000 MW electricity by harnessing hydropower. The other target is to generate 5,000 MW in five years and also 10,000 MW in ten years.
