Photo exhibition “Historical Views: The Collection of Patan Museum, Part I” on display

Patan Museum which was closed due to COVID-19 reopened for the public on November 23, 2020 after about nine months. And with an aim to attract domestic tourists, Patan Museum Development Committee has organized a photo exhibition titled "Historical Views: The Collection of Patan Museum, Part I" in the museum's temporary gallery.

Patan Museum which was closed due to COVID-19 reopened for the public on November 23, 2020 after about nine months. And with an aim to attract domestic tourists, Patan Museum Development Committee has organized a photo exhibition titled "Historical Views: The Collection of Patan Museum, Part I" in the museum's temporary gallery.


The exhibition showcases a comparative overview of the then and now scenario of the Kathmandu Valley. Museum Officer Sureshman Lakhe says, “The pandemic has also affected the museum. It has to bear its own expenses. That is why the exhibition has been organized to attract tourists. ”

He said that visitors can come and be amazed by the old pictures of a hundred years ago along with the art and heritage of Patan Durbar Square. The exhibition features sketches of the Kathmandu Valley from 1850 to 1885, as well as photographs taken by locals and foreigners from 1899.


A total of 24 photographs and sketches are exhibited and the exhibition includes sketches of the first scientist Gehendra Shamsher, a statue of Kalbhairav, Ashoka Stupa of Lagankhel and Patan Durbar Square. Lakhe stated that it is safe to visit the museum as health safety standards have been adopted.

The exhibition, which started on December 25, 2020, will continue till January 31.
