KATHMANDU, Aug 2: Amid heavy rainfall this monsoon season, the Tansen-Butwal stretch of the Siddhartha Highway has witnessed severe cracks at multiple places.

The road has crumbled at various places and that has made it difficult for heavy vehicles to ply the road. Only small light vehicles are plying the road. Different sections of the highway have been slumped.

The road has caved in at Jhumsa, Dobhan, Nagmandir, Chaubish Mile, Bhutkhola and Paithedanda areas of Tinau Rural Municipality in Palpa district. It has made travel risky. Therefore, the District Police Office, Palpa, has barred entrepreneurs from operating heavy vehicles on the road from Saturday evening.

Heavy vehicles have been left stranded in Palpa due to the landslides along multiple sections of the Siddhartha Highway.

Local police officer Som Bahadur Saru said that the road section has witnessed frequent road obstructions due to rain-triggered landslides, causing trouble to thousands of passengers every day.
