PHOTOS: Leaders pay their last tributes to Giri

KATHMANDU, August 21: Leaders of various political parties have paid their tributes to late Senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader and lawmaker Pradip Giri. Giri passed away while undergoing treatment at Nepal Medicity Hospital on Saturday evening. He was 74.

KATHMANDU, August 21: Leaders of various political parties have paid their tributes to late Senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader and lawmaker Pradip Giri. Giri passed away while undergoing treatment at Nepal Medicity Hospital on Saturday evening. He was 74.

Giri's body was kept on Mediciti Hospital premises from 9 AM to 11 AM and it will be kept at the party headquarters from 11:30 AM to 2.00 PM today. Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba placed the party's flag on Giri’s body. The last rites of Giri will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat later today.


Born in Siraha in eastern Nepal, Giri had earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy and Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Giri's father Netra Lal Giri was also an NC leader. Inspired by his father, he joined NC in 1961. He spent four years in jail during the Panchayati regime. He was a popular leader among leaders and cadres. He has also authored over two dozen books. A Gandhian politician, Giri was among a few leaders in Nepal who could interpret Marxism.
