On this day, pro-democracy fighters Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha who were sentenced to death for their demand to establish a democratic system in the country and guarantee people’s fundamental rights back in the 1940s, are remembered and respected as the four leading martyrs in the country's political history.

On the occasion, a group affiliated with the Nepali Congress (BP) marched to the memorial to pay tributes to the martyrs in the capital.
