DHADING, July 20: At least one person was killed and one other was left severely injured after a landslide and flood triggered by an incessant rainfall swept away seven houses in Dhading.

Similarly, a five-year-old daughter of local Nisha Chepang was injured when their house in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-8, Dhushatar was buried by a landslide.

While a vehicle was buried, several other houses were severely damaged by a landslide in Furkekhola of Gajuri Rural Municipality-2 in the district.

Police said the incessant rainfall and broken roads in various sections of Prithivi Highway has hampered their rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, a bridge connecting Dhading and Chitwan districts was destroyed by rain-triggered floods. The bridge lying at Dhanding-end collapsed following the road depression, said DSP Khadka.

Flash floods and landslide debris have caused obstruction at different sections including Hugdikhola, Badarekhola, Baireni, Chalise, Phurkekhola and Chhahare of Prithivi Highway. Vehicular movement along the highway has come to a complete halt since the morning.

As an electricity pole connecting a 33-KV transmission line at Gajuri-8, Belkhu was washed away by the flood, electricity service distributed through Jahare substation has also been disrupted across Dhading district.

The Office of Gajuri Rural Municipality has been inundated as a swollen stream overflowed into it. All rooms in the ground floor are filled with flood water, causing damages to various properties including furniture, said chairman Rajendra Bikram Basnet.
