KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Pinkathon Kathmandu, one of the biggest women’s marathons to raise awareness and encourage women to adopt an active lifestyle, is gearing up for its second edition. According to the press statement released by Namraj Joshi, the franchise holder of Pinkathon in Nepal, the marathon is scheduled on February 24, where Pinkathon Kathmandu is expected to see a turnout of 5,000 women from all walks of life, and will have four running categories to offer all participants an opportunity to run.

“The first international edition of Pinkathon saw an overwhelming turnout. We had 3,000 women from all walks of life run distances of three kilometers, five kilometers, 10 km and the half marathon distance of 21 km. In 2017, we had also introduced Electronic Timing System (ETS) for the first time in Nepal, while Armed Police Force (APF) athlete Kanchhi Maya Koju set a new national record by finishing the half marathon in one hour 18 minutes 28 seconds,” the press statement quoted Joshi. Pinkathon was founded by Indian model, actor, film producer and fitness promoter Milind Soman and Reema Sanghavi, managing director at Maximus Mice and Media Solution, with a sole purpose to empower women through awareness. It is India’s biggest women’s run, and is currently held in eight cities in India.

The press statement quoted Milind saying, “Through Pinkathon, we encourage women to adopt health and fitness in their daily life by the means of running. It is for every woman who has been neglecting her health for various reasons. They need to take out a little bit of time in the day for themselves, not just for their physical health but also for mental health and emotional balance. I would like to appeal to all women to take out some time for their own physical health.”

Pinkathon Kathmandu is the first international edition of Pinkathon, a movement by a growing community of empowered women to support other women, uplift them and encourage them to lead healthy lives and to highlight the need to ensure increase mental and physical well-being of women, according to the press statement.
