Considering the excitement about the upcoming local elections among voters and nominees, Republica reached out to some mayoral nominees from Kaski, Bharatpur and Dhading to discuss their candidacy. Here are the excerpts:

Nilkantha Municipality

Bhim Prasad Dhungana Nepali Congress

My dream is of a

peaceful, beautiful municipality

I have a solid plan to make the municipality a beautiful and peaceful one. I know how to do this. I will stay within my domain and utilize development funds the best way they can be. What I have done in the past as ward chairperson is in front of the people. They know how I work. Under my leadership, development is going to take a huge leap. This municipality will be a municipality in a real sense.

Domestic airport and stadium in

municipality

Arjun Kumar Shrestha CPN-UML

I look forward to construct a domestic airport and a sports stadium. My candidacy basically aims to build these two things and I will definitely make it happen. Apart from that there are many issues that this municipality is facing. If we count them it will take hours, so what I want to say is that if I am elected I will resolve all of these issues one by one during my tenure and make it a perfect town. I am going to make this a happy place for people of all groups and ages.

Perfect facility in

municipality

Shova Dangol

CPN (Maoist Center)

I vow to develop and avail first class facility to the residents of our municipality. As a woman and able youth, people encouraged me to vie for this post and I am confident that I will deliver the promises I have made.

I will devote my energies in formulating and implementing laws and policies that support development of road networks, drinking water, health and education facilities, among others.

Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan

Tourism development and employment

generation

Ramji Kunwar

Nepali Congress

Pokhara is tourists’ city. We have to develop it that way. I am fully committed to develop it in as tourism city where everyone is employed. I am going to make it ‘unemployment free’ city. Both domestic and international tourists are going to find it a great place to visit and rest. Public service sectors like bus parks, airport, hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges, will a facelift. Constructing the international airport will remain high priority.

Pokhara’s beauty will remain intact

Manbahadur GC

CPN-UML

I will concentrate my efforts in developing Pokhara into a prosperous city but without affecting its natural beauty. I will invest all my energies in delivering the promises that I have made as part of my candidacy. While managing existing resources to support development projects, constructing the new international airport and a well equipped bus park will remain a priority. Locals will feel safe, secured and comfortable to live here.

I have A master plan

Bishwoprakash Lamichhane

 CPN (Maoist Center)

My first priority is building the international airport. That will be in place in very short time.

Likewise, I have a master plan that aims at developing the agriculture, industries, residential areas, etc. For instance, presently the agriculture production is affected due to lack of modern technology and resources.

We are going to avail these and ensure that the sector performs to its full capacity.

Developing separate residential areas is another priority of candidacy.

Bharatpur Metropolitan

Youth’s potential would be tapped

Dinesh Koirala

Nepali Congress

I have been into politics since my school days. As an insider to political echelons and to the things are done in Bharatpur, I am confident that I can deliver my development pledges.

Bharatpur is in the center of this country and it has immense development resources and prospects. All it needs is someone who can tap them and lead the development drive.

Experience is the key

Devi Gyawali

CPN-UML

As someone who has the experience of serving as deputy mayor of Bharatpur, I intend to change the face of this city for good. I will make it beautiful and efficient place.

We have many resources including hydro power, tourism, agriculture and we are going to harness their potentials.

We are going to invest in building bridges, roads and the industry sector. I am pretty sure that my victory will ensure rapid development of this city.

Vision of A

modern metro

Renu Dahal

CPN (Maoist Center)

My candidacy is for all-round development of this city. However, infrastructure development is my top priority as in lack of it other development initiatives are not possible. This is actually our dream of the war time.

Now, we have received the opportunity to strengthen our local bodies. As mayor of this metro, I will develop it into an exemplary city and let the country know that our party can deliver its promises.
