PM applauds former MPs role in handling political ups and downs

KATHMANDU, June 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has applauded role of former members of parliament in handling political ups and downs in the country.



Addressing the 15th General Assembly of Former Parliamentarians' Forum here today, PM Oli said contribution of former parliamentarians who are the wealth of experiences to the constitution drafting, ensuring people's rights and leading the country towards the path of prosperity was incomparable.



Hoping that the event would yield something meaningful that would help to guide the country well, the Prime Minister spoke the need of promoting national interests and sovereignty.



Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said there was no alternative before the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) to work together to take out the country from political transition that it was facing since 2007.



Another Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Chitra Bahadur KC said welfare of the nation and people should be the motto of any politics.



Forum Chair Taranath Ranabhat said prevalence of corruption, violence and impunity was always a heavy barrier to materlise the dream of building a new Nepal.



Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi was of the view of revising the constitution for what he said to protect the rights of dalits and indigenous nationalities and to address the problems hovering over the matters of federalism and citizenship.



On the occasion, 13 former MPs over 70 were honored and the Forum's bulletin was launched.



The event will run for two days and will amended its statute and elect a new leadership. RSS
