KATHMANDU, March 31: Ruling coalition partner Nepali Congress stressed on holding local level election on the stipulated date while Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tried to assure Madhes-based parties that he would develop a consensus in next two days to move the constitution amendment bill forward with revision.
According to Sadbhavana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato, the NC told the agitating Madhes-based parties that the largest party in the parliament is ready to move forward constitution amendment bill only to the extent, which would not disturb or delay the local level election slated on May 14.

PM Dahal held a meeting with coalition partners and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front on Friday at his official residence and discussed about constitution amendment and local level elections.
According to CPN (Maoist Center) Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal, the meeting urged PM Dahal to prepare a proposal on constitution amendment after consulting the top leaders of the major parties.
According to the official website of PM Dahal, he proposed of suspending the issue of provincial delineation for now and forming a Federal Commission to settle the delineation issue before holding the election of provincial assemblies and federal parliament. According to the website, PM also floated the idea of revising the amendment bill and removing chief and deputy chief of municipalities and rural municipalities from the electoral college of the National Assembly.
"The meeting discussed on various issues and ideas presented by the taskforce and the PM has asked for two more days to develop consensus but no concrete understanding was developed in the meeting," said Mahato.
The NC leader and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak said that the NC leaders stressed on holding local level election on stipulated date.
