KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has ruled out the possibility of restoration of the monarchy in the country.

Addressing the House of Representatives, Oli asserted that the monarchy will not be revived even as some forces are attempting to restore the monarchy.

"We abolished the monarchy when those forces were in power. Now, it is an ill-time to talk about reviving the monarchy," he said. Oli said that monarchy is already dead and cannot be revived.

The prime minister said that the democratic achievements were achieved through people's long struggle and sacrifice. "Democracy was not gifted by someone, instead, it was achieved through our own struggle and sacrifice for several years," he said.

In another context, Oli said that he will remain as the prime minister of the country till the next parliamentary election.

"Nobody remains in power forever. Everybody has to lose power one day. I will also not be in power after the next parliamentary elections," he said. The prime minister brushed aside the allegations that the government has become despotic.

"The government's main objective is to protect and further consolidate the democratic achievements made through various democratic struggles," he said.  Nepal's democracy is the best among other democracies around the world, he said.
