KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stressed the need to improve access to information on the occasion of 11th National Information Day. However, he urged citizens to refrain from collecting personal information of others.
The National Information Day is marked every year from Bhadra 3, 2065, the year when the Right to Information Act came into place. He also added all agencies to disseminate information to strengthen democracy and urged all to exercise their rights .

"However, each individual must provide information responsibly," he said as he highlighted the current government's commitment to promote good governance, transparency, control corruption, establish rule of law and preserve cultural diversity.
Krishna Hari Banskota, chief commissioner, National Information Commission (NIC) said that access to information would help to strengthen government and its systems, curb corruption and boost economic prosperity by promoting transparency and accountability.
He added that the government must end labeling official letters 'confidential' and 'very confidential'.
After the Right to Information Act, the citizens have increasingly sought details of public programs and budgets throughout the country, he said. To further educate and aware people, especially children, course books of Grade 6, 7, 9 and 11 incorporate content on RTI.
