PM Oli to attend BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand in September

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit Thailand in September. He will be going to Thailand to take part in the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit Thailand in September. He will be going to Thailand to take part in the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit.


This will be his first visit to a foreign country after becoming the Prime Minister in July.

The BIMSTEC Summit is set to take place on September 4, 2024. PM KP Sharma Oli will participate in the summit as the head of government, with the preparations for the summit being made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Other countries like Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka will also participate in the BIMSTEC summit. 


Established on June 6, 1997, BIMSTEC aims to foster cooperation and promote healthy trade relations between South and Southeast Asian countries. Nepal became a member of BIMSTEC in 2004.


At the BIMSTEC summit, agriculture, cultural cooperation, environmental and disaster management, climate change, poverty reduction, and multinational crime control will be discussed.
