KATHMANDU, Sept 31: Prime Minister KP Oli has reached to Costa Rica on Saturday evening.

Prime Minister Oli visited the Central American country at the invitation of Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada, after addressing the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During his stay in Costa Rica, the prime minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the president and address a special function to be organized by University for Peace (UPEACE) in the capital, San Jose.

The visit by the prime minister comes amid concerns in the diplomatic circles in Kathmandu over whether the country's ruling political leadership has a clear sense of its foreign policy priorities.

They have also questioned the rationale behind the visit to a Central American country by the prime minister, who has laid greater emphasis on austerity measures in government spending. Prime Minister Oli, who was otherwise supposed to return home on September 29, extended his visit by five days to visit Costa Rica.

Prime Minister Oli is accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya and his aides.

Upon his arrival at the Juan Santamaria International Airport, Prime Minister Oli was welcomed by the First Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica Epsy Campbell Barr, Ambassador of Nepal to Costa Rica Arjun Karki, Rector of University for Peace (UPEACE) Dr Francisco Rojas Aravena, Chief of Protocol at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica Gina Guillen Grillo and Honorary Consul General Ana Victoria Badilla.

Prime Minister Oli is scheduled return home on October 3.
