KATHMANDU, June 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that he felt hurt by the main opposition Nepali Congress' protest in today's parliament session barring him to address the House.
"I could not speak in the parliament on contemporary matters of public interests including my recent Europe visit and Guthi bill due to the obstruction of the main opposition Nepali Congress. I felt hurt by the incident," Oli tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.
Press advisor to Oli, Kundan Aryal said that the prime minister is holding a press conference at 5 pm today at the Prime Minister's Office, Singha Durbar.
Parliament meeting postponed until tomorrow
Earlier this afternoon, lawmakers representing the main opposition obstructed a meeting of the House of Representatives barring the prime minister from addressing there.
As soon as the House meeting began, the NC lawmakers demanded that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba should be allowed to speak ahead of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. However, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara gave the floor to speak to Prime Minister Oli first.
In turn, the irate NC lawmakers picketed the main rostrum as Prime Minister Oli was preparing to make the special address. Oli could not address the session due to the NC lawmakers' protest.
Speaker Mahara urged the NC lawmakers to listen to the prime minister first. However, the speaker adjourned the House meeting until 4 pm on Wednesday as the NC lawmakers continued to protests. Today, the prime minister was scheduled to address the parliament session over proposed Guthi bill.
