Poems that resonate

As a teenager, you will often feel that life can be tough. Sometimes it becomes impossible to juggle your social life, love life, school work and so much more all at the same time. There are many emotions and thoughts going on within you but you can’t express them in a way people will understand either. And that can frustrate you no end. However, 17-year-old Prachin Pant, a self-confessed lover of reading, writing, and photography, found a way to express her emotions and let out the steam. She found that outlet in poetry.

“I have been writing poems ever since I was 13 years old. I would scribble in my diary whenever I had the chance, and just let out everything I was feeling and pour myself in the form of words,” says Pant adding that as the years went by and the diaries kept adding up, she realized that she had a lot of content to actually come out with a book. “Though the diaries were mostly just filled with all sorts of emotions and rants, I realized that I could put them together to mean something,” she adds. She further states that all the years of reading different writers and scribbling poems whenever she had the time led to the eureka moment when she finally knew she had the necessary draft to actually plan a book, and that she could do this.

Review: A journey within

“I always knew I wanted to publish a book. Ever since I started writing at the age of 13, I used to tell myself that I was going to publish a book when I was 16 years old. Who knew it would actually come true though. I’m still in shock,” says Pant. Though she was 17 years old when she her book came out in July this year, she had opened an Instagram account in January this year to specifically post her poems.

Apparently it was this that brought her a lot of popularity with random people sending her messages about how they could relate to her work and how it made them feel better during difficult times. Pant gives credit to these supporters, along with her friends and family, for being the ones who actually made her take the leap and seriously consider publishing a book.

“Knowing that I could help people through my work is what pushed me to actually release a book, besides the fact that it had always been my dream,” she says further explaining that when she came to the realization that her words weren’t just for her but for many like her who went through similar things in life, she felt glad that she had penned down her thoughts.

Pant’s book, Broken Rays of Sunshine, represents only one portion of her life, her love life, and is just a small part of all the poetry she has written till date. She wishes to release a new book soon, and make it broader by covering more aspects of day-to-day life and not just make it about love and relationships. The good thing is that she already has many unpublished poems that she would like to share with the world.

Pant claims that her inspiration isn’t any writer in particular. It’s actually her own thoughts. “My thoughts and the things that go on in my mind and heart are what ultimately lead to the poetry I write. I think that’s what makes my work genuine and that’s also the reason why people can often relate to what I write. I say what they feel,” she says adding that she hopes to make a difference in people’s lives through her work and will continue to pen down her thoughts with that in mind.

Broken Rays of Sunshine is available at Book Land in Jhamsikhel and is priced at Rs 300. Pant also publishes her poetry on her Instagram account: @prachinwrites.
