KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Nepal Police have arrested four persons, who helped in abducting Nepali people in Greece and demanded ransom.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police made the arrest of the four persons who held captive three Nepalis. On 26 May 2023, the Nepali people went to Serbia on seasonal visas in the course of seeking foreign jobs. But, they fell victim to abductors.
Three alleged human traffickers arrested on Wednesday
The arrestees have been made public amid a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday. The arrestees were identified as Shivaraj Kunwar, 32, of Dhankuta, Rameshwor Aryal, 56, of Kathmandu, Prakash Belbase, 32, of Kapilvastu and Dil Bahadur Thapa, 42, of Parbat.
According to the CIB Spokesperson, Nawaraj Adhikari, the victims went to Serbia for job opportunities. But they fled and secretly entered Greece after they were deprived of salaries and facilities as per the agreement. While entering Greece, a Hindi speaking Pakistani person abducted them, and tied up and meted out tortures to them before demanding a ransom of Rs 15,000, said Adhikari.
The arrestees were involved in demanding ransom, he said. Meanwhile, police rescued the abducted Nepali people. Investigation is going on, said the police.
