Dolpo Festival to be organized on September 10-14

KATHMANDU, July 17: Tourism entrepreneurs and local representatives of provincial government of Karnali have said that policy and infrastructural issues in the Dolpo region have been limiting the number of tourists in the region.

“The challenges are especially in terms of policy and infrastructure,” said Gyalpo Thapa Bhote, chairman of Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality during a press conference organized at Nepal Tourism Board on Tuesday.

"The tourists have to pay high fees of US $50 per day to trek in the Upper Dolpo Circuit. This should be reduced to around $30 per day," Bhote said.

Bhote added that tourists were facing problems in movement due to either the absence or poor condition of bridges in the trekking routes.

The press conference was about the Dolpo Festival scheduled to be organized from September 10 to September 14 by Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality and Vision Dolpo.

Dolpo is located at a high altitude, which is in the upper part of the Dolpa district and is surrounded by chain of mountains including Dhaulagiri (8,172 meters).

"As the festival is being launched few months before Visit Nepal Year 2020, we hope that this festival will bring good impact," said Bhote, who is also the coordinator of Dolpo festival organizers committee.

The budget for the festival is not yet decided, however, the organizers are planning to coordinate with Nepal Tourism Board and the provincial government in this regard.

Tourists from France, Germany, Switzerland, China, and Korea visit this region in greater numbers. Organizers said that this region attracted very few internal tourists because of difficult infrastructure.
