Population of vultures increases significantly in Nawalparasi

NAWALPUR, Dec 4: The population of vultures has increased significantly due to the establishment of Jatayu Restaurant in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta-East) for the protection of this endangered bird species.

NAWALPUR, Dec 4: The population of vultures has increased significantly due to the establishment of Jatayu Restaurant in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta-East) for the protection of this endangered bird species.


A study has revealed that the number of vultures has increased by 400 percent in the area due to the restaurant which was established with community engagement in 2006 for the preservation of vultures.

Jatayu Restaurant Management Committee Chairperson and conservationist DB Chaudhary informed that as many as 517 vultures were found in the areas as per the latest count.


"A total of 77 vultures of seven species were counted when the restaurant was about to start," he said, adding, "According to the latest study, 517 vultures of eight species and 100 nests of the vulture were recorded here".


"The vulture conservation campaign has become a success with support from the community, government and international non-governmental organizations", he noted.
