President Bhandari courts controversy again

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been dragged into yet another controversy after she summoned influential ruling Nepal Communist Party leaders, ministers and advisors of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at her office to discuss about contemporary politics.

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been dragged into yet another controversy after she summoned influential ruling Nepal Communist Party leaders, ministers and advisors of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at her office to discuss about contemporary politics. 


President Bhandari had summoned key party leaders just before party's standing committee meeting was supposed to conclude on Saturday and discussed about socialism, the policy outlined by the party, it has been learnt.

NCP leaders Jarnadan Sharma, Debendra Poudel, Shankar Pokharel, Surendra Pandey, Pradeep Gyawali, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Barshaman Pun and Bisnhu Rimal were summoned at Shital Niwas, the President's House. 


Informed leaders said ceremonial president Bhandari, who was elected from the ruling NCP, had inquired about contemporary politics, discussed about ongoing standing committee meeting and socialism. The party is brainstorming about the base of socialism in recent days. 


A section of leaders criticized President Bhandari for calling a meeting of influential leaders at her office ahead of crucial standing committee meeting. 


Previously, President Bhandari was accused of inviting ruling NCP leaders to resolve internal disputes and conclude prolonged party unification process.
