KATHMANDU, Jan 13: A report on the National Medical Education draft bill was tabled in the House of Representatives for further discussion, on Sunday.

President of the Parliament's Education and Health Committee (PEHC) Jayapuri Gharti tabled the report on the medical draft bill in today's session of the House despite strong opposition from the Nepali Congress lawmakers.

The Nepali Congress has been opposing the report on the medical education draft bill saying that it has failed to accommodate the deals reached with senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda KC in the past.

The report on the medical draft bill was sent back to the House of Representatives last week after the Parliament's Education and Health Committee endorsed it with majority following a clause-wise discussion.

Dr. KC, who has been demanding reforms in the medical sector for a long time, launched fresh fast-unto-death in Ilam last week.

Dr KC has been launching his hunger strike on the premises of an old office building of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction saying that the Oli-led government did not implement the agreement reached with him on April 23.

On January 7, KC had expressed dissatisfaction with the draft of National Medical Education Bill endorsed by a sub-committee of the Parliamentary Education and Health Committee saying that the draft bill does not address his all demands.
